About Customized Training

LOOKING FOR TRAINING FUNDS?

Contact Bellingham Technical College and ask about the Job Skills Program!

The Job Skills Program, often called JSP, is a matching (cash or in-kind) funds training grant opportunity. Companies, working closely with their local community or technical college can apply for State funds through a competitive application process. The process is straightforward but does require time and cooperation from both parties. Colleges and companies work together to create a customized training plan, budget necessary expenses and calculate the economic benefit to a region and the state.

The ultimate goal of the JSP is to enhance growth of Washington’s economy and increase employment opportunities. JSP funds help provide training and employment:

  • In regions with high unemployment rates and high levels of poverty
  • In areas with new and growing industries
  • In locations where the local population does not have the skills needed to stay employed
  • In r egions impacted by economic changes that cause large-scale job loss
  • For those at risk of losing their jobs due to technological or economic changes

These funds provide for training that is necessary for a company and its workers to stay competitive in a global market. Training can be offered to new or current employees; on a college campus or a work site; and can vary from computer to technology to supervisory skills needed for a successful company.

This is a match grant. JSP funds provide for half of the training costs, while business partners provide a cash or in-kind match for the remaining expenses.

This training opportunity has provided many companies in the state with much needed professional development. Contact Bellingham Technical College for more information on the Job Skills Program.
